Successful completion of an approved entry-level education program – courses available on our continuing education listing.

Submit application with appropriate fee and required documentation, which includes proof of meeting eligibility criteria

You will receive notification of approval to begin your exam series following a review of your application and eligibility requirements.
COF Exam Series
The BOC examination series has been developed to ascertain your competence as an orthotic fitter. The examinations have been developed in conjunction with accomplished subject matter experts and authorities in the field, as well as item writers, psychometricians and test development professionals. Test questions and procedures are based on national job requirements as determined based on an analysis of practice conducted by BOC every five years. BOC exam preparation resources are available to assist you in preparing and studying for your examinations.
To become a BOC COF, you must successfully complete:
- Multiple Choice Examination (MCE)
The MCE exam assesses the knowledge base required for the profession. You’ll have three hours for completion of this segment, consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. This exam is computer-administered. The Orthotic Fitter Detailed Content Outline provides a comprehensive description of all practice areas on which you will be tested. Instructions are available to help you fully utilize the outline for exam preparation purposes.-
Your certification must be renewed annually.

As a BOC COF, you will need to fulfill continuing education requirements.

NOTE: From the date you submit your application, you have a total of three years to register for and successfully complete all examinations.

Note: Only your application payment is due at this time. While you may indicate for which exam period you would like to be considered, exam fees are not required to be submitted until you are approved to begin your exam series.
