About BOC

boc sealThe Board of Certification/Accreditation, International (BOC), founded in 1984, is an independent, not-for-profit agency dedicated to meeting the demands for quality patient care by offering highly valued credentials for practitioners and suppliers of comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic (O&P) care and durable medical equipment services.

BOC offers:

  • O&P certification programs for five professional areas: orthotists, prosthetists, pedorthists, orthotic fitters and mastectomy fitters.

  • Facility accreditation for O&P practitioners, as well as suppliers of durable medical equipment (DME), pharmacies with DME and related supplies, respiratory therapy and related supplies, and other facility/practice specialties.

BOC is the only O&P credentialing organization with National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation for all of its certification programs. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recognize BOC as one of ten deemed accrediting organizations for DMEPOS suppliers, and facilities can earn accreditation for all CMS billing categories. Many other third party payors recognize BOC Facility Accreditation as an independent demonstration of commitment to patient care and sound business practices.

History

BOC was founded in 1984 as a certification program advocating rigorous professional experience and geared to working O&P professionals seeking to enhance or advance their careers. In the early 1990s, BOC introduced another credential, facility accreditation, to help facilities independently prove their competency in patient care and sound business practices.

BOC credentials celebrate and recognize the competence, professionalism and safe practice environments of BOC-certified practitioners and BOC-accredited facilities.

Mission

Our mission is to develop and promote policies and procedures that assure patients, their physicians and the public at large of the competence of BOC-certified practitioners and to ensure the availability of comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic care and services, as well as DME suppliers and other related facility/practice specialties, in safe practice environments.

Board of Directors

BOC is governed by an active Board of Directors responsible for developing BOC’s vision, mission, and goals and maintaining the organization’s integrity and stature.

BOC's Board, elected directly by BOC certificants, selects its own executive officers, who serve one-year terms. Each member of the Board understands the importance of the ongoing role that BOC practitioners and facilities play in patients’ lives.
